The company has just been established, its purpose is to improve building efficiency through automation and enhance the safety of the construction site. The new product released this time is an automatic crawler loader that can be used for both excavation（Excavating Machinery.） and material loading. The most important thing is that no human driving is required. Workers only need to use a tablet computer to operate this small construction vehicle. .
ATL's yellow-black appearance looks a bit like a miniature version of the Hornet, with a black box on the top of the wagon that resembles the top of the wagon, with electronic controls for ATL. People only need to provide a coordinate, set the shape and depth of the excavation, and it can do this accurately and automatically.
How ATL works
In fact, the principle of ATL is similar to that of autonomous driving, and it is also using LiDAR (optical radar) for navigation. However, ATL's sensors are specifically designed for use in high vibration, high impact environments, and can also measure the amount of soil excavated by robots. In addition, the robot is equipped with an obstacle avoidance system to avoid harm to humans.
In addition, compared to autonomous vehicles, ATL's advantage is that its workplace is more fixed. Automated vehicles must be on the road in the future, and the actual road conditions are complex and even confusing. But the space on the construction site is limited and structured. As a result, positioning ATL is not a difficult task. Built Robotics uses the so-called enhanced GPS, combined with on-site base stations and satellites to position the automatic excavating eachinery to centimeters.
Specifically, to dig a 30x40 foot foundation, human workers typically take one to three days to complete. Built Robotics says their ATL can reach the same speed and never get hurt or feel tired.
The person in charge of the company said that they have conducted experiments in the Bay Area and are currently improving the technology. CEO Ready-Campbell said: "I think this technology should speed up deployment, even before autopilot."
